Since moving to Victoria with next-to-no savings, and having an intense case of FOMO, I have felt the need to drastically improve my bargain hunting skills for fun things to explore. I arrived here just over two months ago and thought I would share my top three spots to visit on a budget, with a part 2 coming soon.

  1. ACDC lane and Hosier Lane - Melbourne CBD

  2. Dandenong Ranges National Park - Sherbrooke Falls

  3. Dr Suess Museum - Melbourne CBD

  1. ACDC Lane and Hosier Lane - Melbourne CBD

This inner city tourist attraction was by far one of my favourite places to visit as a new comer because it is easy to get to and FREE. ACDC lane and Hosier lane are the names of two popular alleyways in the Melbourne CBD, which are covered in the most intricate graffiti art I have ever seen. Walking through these two lanes takes you on a trip through history as you explore all the artwork that has been added to over the years, painted on top of, in between, on the floor and over the building windows. Hosier lane is somewhat even more exciting as it is famous for being the alleyway where graffiti is legal and free-for-all. The art here is absolute chaos, and I love it. This is definitely a must visit for people passing through, staying for a weekender, or moving here from other parts of the world. ACDC lane and Hosier lane are a simply beautiful representation of Melbourne culture and lifestyle.

2. Dandenong Ranges National Park - Sherbrooke Falls

Dandenong Ranges National Park is just a 35 minute drive from Melbourne City and home to one of my favourite walking trails. Although It is a little out of the way, this national park is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city, if you are a country bumpkin like myself. My go-to trail is called Sherbrooke Falls walking trail and is located 5-10 minutes from the main car park. Sherbrooke Falls is much less busy and gives you an authentic hideaway walking trail to follow. It is very handy to have a car to access places like this, however the public transport system in Melbourne is all over it, and there are buses that run all the way to Dandenong road. If this is your desired mode of transport - always remember to double check weekend service time changes and any road works.

3. The Art of Dr Suess Museum - Melbourne CBD

This hidden gem is located on a quiet side street in Melbourne CBD and is easily located on google maps. The museum features all publications of the famous Dr Seuss, as well as his early, and much more dark publications. This is a fantastic spot to visit if you love art and literature, or even if you are just a huge fan of Green Eggs and Ham.
